Trending Tuesday #13 Beauty

Beauty NYFW

As NYFW wrapped up I had to check out the details from the shows. During the Fashion Week’s I am mainly concentrating on the trends you can see on the catwalks. I often think beauty trends are the hardest to follow. What we mortals have to remember is that models are models because of their versatility and the fact they can have anything done with their face or hair and still look amazing. I for sure am not one of these people. For a start, having darker skin means I have to be careful of what colours I use ….. do you have that too? I always hear people saying “I could never wear that colour it would make me look to yellow/pale/dark etc”. What you all don’t know about me, is that when I was a student I worked for Estee Lauder on the counter and of course, every season we received new products but, what I noticed was that everyone usually came in for their ‘products’.

Well for the past season and it looks like future ones too, I am able to emulate some of the beauty looks from the Catwalk into my own make-up bag and routine. Wet hair is something I have been doing forever, it all came about when I went to the hairdresser in my local town when I was about 10 and clearly she didn’t know about about my Middle Eastern type hair and has she blow dried my hair I just saw it getting bigger and bigger! Basically, I looked like someone from the Soul Train and since then I have never blow dried my hair unless its a blow out and then I go a little crazy and ask the hair dresser to run the GHD’s over it just in case. At Derek Lam, incase your hair does go bad you can wear a turban and if your looking for good ones don’t forget to check out Malaak from Dubai.

Aside from the wet hair the trend on lips seemed to be to wear Orange! I have been wearing this from time to time, mostly when I m in Dubai and it calls for more make-up than my regular look in Amsterdam. So next season I will for sure be embracing orange lips and mixing it up with my white outfits!

What beauty trends do you want to see more of?

Ciao for now xx

Wintour Smiles

BTpsk-oCMAAqbrmHey loves,  Yes, its NYFW and I have been watching carefully all weekend at the shows but, before NYFW even closes I think we can all agree this is the best look ….. Ever. Whilst all eyes are usually on models and catwalk this morning at Victoria Beckham it was all about the FrontRow. The most Stylish man, with a beautiful daughter sitting next to the powerhouse of fashion! Here is the breaking news …. Anna Wintour smiles! Who knows what she thinks of Victoria Beckham’s SS 14 show but, one thing is for sure she clearly has a soft spot for Harper Beckham or maybe its David 😉

Do you love this photo too?

Ciao for Now

Fashion Photography

dropped flowersshrimpton cuyellow carPonte de Vecchio, Florence, Vogue, 1962binHey Guys, Hope your all having a good weekend, sorry for the delayed post today but, I have been having a few issues since yesterday, Anyway, I think this is one of the posts that doesn’t show my style but, probably is a good insight to one of my all time favourite things in life ….. Fashion Photography. I know many of you read blogs and folllow fashion however, I am sure you will agree there is nothing better than pure fashion photography. As I mentioned in my previous post this week I love photography and I don’t think there is anything better than brilliant editorial work. Its for this reason I buy magazines and love to see how fashion is showcased in the fashion pages. Brian Duffy was at the forefront of fashion photography in 1960’s working for Vogue magazine as well as Elle and other influential publications.

I am sure you agree with me that the above pictures are just spectacular, if I could own gallery space as in my own private gallery (when I get the mansion 😉 I would for sure want to own these beautiful photos, they show not only the natural beauty of the models. but, the wonderful fashion of the era. Its hard to imagine that capturing the beauty had to be calculated with just light adn skill as Addie (Gallery Vassie’s owner and Curator) said “there was no photoshop in those days”. If you think of Bardot, Shrimpton and Twiggy they have aged so well too, and to me, without surgery  and just natural beauty is what makes a model.

Today, fashion photography is changing with the rise of street-style and bloggers however, it was Duffy, Bailey and Donovan that were the hip guys in the 60’s who in some way were more famous than the models they took photos of. They were indeed so cool they could persuade their models to step out of studios and be photographed on the ‘street’. To me, I love nothing more than photography that can capture someone in a moment. I hope you will agree too, that the last photo could be straight off the page of a September issue for AW13 and this is what makes Duffy’s work magnificent.

I was so privileged to see these beautiful prints and I want to say a BIG thank you to Addie at Gallery Vassie for sharing this selection of pictures for you all to see.  If your interested in buying any of Duffy’s work including the wonderful Duffy book, the first publication of this wonderful photographers work then please contact Gallery Vassie through their website.

What do you love about Fashion Photography?

Happy weekend and Ciao for Now xx
